Applying your analysis

I chosed this activity to use the new blogging technique. I used voice thread to record what I analyse from the fragment "the Big Sleep". I think is a very renewal activity that makes the common activities more interesting.

Here is my recording:

Note: I was with a little cold so my voice is like hoarse some times.

What is literature?

Practical criticism.

You fit into me
You fit into me
like a hook into an eye
A fish hook
An open eye.

Questions to the text:
Hook and eye button
1. The relationship between the title and the text is that the title refers to the poem that the "you" fit into "me" like a hook in the eye.
2. Hook and eye, I know hook is something used to fish and en eye is what we have and use to see, but a hook into an eye is a kind of button used in clothes.
3. First, hook and eye refers to the button I mentioned before, but then it makes reference to a fishing hook and an open eye.
4. As I said before, hook and eye is a type of buttons used in clothing, but in the poem says after that there is a fish hook, and an eye. Yes they do because the have a double meaning.
5. It is mainly an Ironic poem, because it makes us to understand that first is a hook and an eye, but then it is a fish hook separed from an open eye.

A hook
6. There are no any structure in the poem. No rhyme no similar amount of  syllables
7. At first, love. But then I thought that could be anger or fury.
8. From someone who as been left by other one.
9. I think the main ambiguity is "the hook into the eye", at first, the clothing button, but then a hook into an eye.
10. To refer to her change on his emotional life, from being in love to being alone.
11. All these elements makes us to understand the real message of the literary speaker ( I remember it was called persona), there is an ambiguity that  makes us to see the change in her life.

Summary week 6

Literature throughout time
9/4/2012-13/42012
In these week, with Miss Veronica, we learned all the different ways of analyse literature since the early Greeks. Then we were supposed to answer some questions:
1. The approach I felt most comfortable was the structuralism, because it was easy to understand the Signifier and Signified. The hardest to understand was the New criticism.
2. I would teach them Structuralism giving them examples, show theme the signifier and signified. I would ask them what they think when the say a word and then explain why.

Summary week 5

Oral presentation
2/4/2012-6/4/2012
On this week we presented our oral presentations, in my case my group spoked about stereotypes and misunderstandings. The other presentations were very good too, there was an acting presentation about the babel tower, and all sow a explained acting. It was a very interesting activity. At these week Miss Veronica took us as our teacher. She introduce us to literature, with a different way of teaching.

Summary week 4

Stereotypes
26/3/2012-30/3/2012
At this week we learned stereotypes and which were the misunderstandings caused by this issue. We watch a video called "manners and verbal expressions across different cultures". It was about the expressions that could be offensive in other cultures or could be confused.

Summary week 3

Language and parole
19/3/2012-23/3/2012
In these third week of class we learned the difference between language an parole. we learned too that there are a huge amount of theories for culture, but there is no one completely exact. This was a very interesting week because we debated in teams and had some important "fights" to acknowledge which was the correct theory.

Summary week 2

The power of language.
12/3/2012-16/3/2012
In these week we saw the Tower of Babel and how language was created based on this biblical passage. We saw a video about the history of language and we knew for first time Noam Chomsky. We make some reflections about the power of language and in which ways could be used. We learned that language is different because of his culture, and it defines social groups or organizations.

Summary week 1

What is language?
5/3/2012-9/3/2012
At the first day we review the IB profile of a student. In these week we started defining language, and we learned that language is a system based on rules used to communicate. We allsow learned that language is open-ended, creative and inherent to humans. The last thing we saw that week was Dr. Deb Roy's video, we analysed it and answer a few questions.

Debating in class

"Humans are born with an ability to create language" vs "Language is a learnt construct like the rules governing a sport".
This was the controversia of last week, we were supposed to debate defending one position with arguments and contra arguments. All the debates were very interesting, I could not say which position won in any case because every single group defend they position very well. In my case, I defended the second statement "Language is a learnt construct like the rules governing a sport". It was a very "hot" debate because each group used they arguments very well and contra argumented with a high quality. In my opinion, I think it was kind of a tie, because we allsow had our bad moments. I think it was a very didactic activity that involved all the class and was very exiting too.

Stereotypes

South American Stereotype
What is a stereotype?
A stereotype is like a generalization based on one experience. Example, if  a Chilean goes to another country and make something awful, like steal or behave bad, then the local people will generalize that all Chilean people are robbers or don't  have no manners. Stereotyping can be vary dangerous, if we have one single experience with someone, and we think that everyone related with this individual have the same habits, we will be in an enormous mistake and probably we will became racist or will think the same way from racist people. A personal experience happened to me last year when I went to the US to holidays. In the airport, security separate Latin people from US people. Latin people had an extremely security revision, instead of US people who just pass by metal detector and just that. The security is very extreme in that cases because they think that all the Latin are drug dealers or criminals.
